Public Services
This department is comprised of five divisions who handle a
wide array of responsibilities primarily associated with managing the city’s
rights-of-way and city owned properties. Employees work closely with
representatives of other governmental agencies and organizations such as South Suburban Parks and Recreation, Urban Drainage and Flood Control, the
Littleton/Englewood Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Colorado Department of
Transportation, the Regional Transportation District, Xcel Energy and eight
sanitation districts.
The Engineering/Utilities Division manages the city’s
street rehabilitation projects, reviews and approves all infrastructure
designs, supervises the city’s sanitary sewer program and the storm drainage
system.
The Street Maintenance Division is responsible for
the repair of the city’s streets, curbs, gutters and sidewalks. There are four
street sweepers, a full-time asphalt and concrete repair crew and three
employees who maintain the city’s traffic signs, signals and street striping.
The Traffic Division manages more than 65 traffic, pedestrian
and fire station signals in the city with a remote, computerized system. The
traffic engineer manages the city’s traffic calming program, street lights and
works with CDOT regarding state highways within the city.
The Grounds Maintenance Division takes care of all of
the city’s public open space areas, street medians, mini parks, tree planting,
and the annual Main Street holiday lighting display.
- There are over 40 full-time and more than 25 part-time seasonal
employees.
- The 2007 annual budget is in excess of $20 million dollars
within the General, Storm Drainage Utility, Sanitary Sewer Utility and
Capital Expenditure Funds of the city.
