Thoughts on Photography

Thoughts on Photography in the 21st Century . . .

presented by Gary Huibregtse

Admission is free. First come, first served. Doors open at 6:30 PM

The photographic medium has continued its remarkable evolution during the first portion of the 21st century, becoming a casual communication tool through social media use, reaffirming its place in the fine arts, and visually defining cultures and events through commercial application and journalistic enterprise.

Gary Huibregtse will place this evolution into a medium-specific historical context, looking at previous milestones in photography’s past and considering their roles in forming imaging issues present in contemporary practice.

Huibregtse is a professor in the Department of Art at Colorado State University where he has been coordinator of the Photo Image Making program since 1985. He is affiliated with Robischon Gallery in Denver. His work involves creating large-scale color prints from large-format film negatives, and is comprised of images that address issues found in the built environment of the western states. The image series was begun in 2007, and is titled New West, Revisited.
