City Manager Finalists

Jim BecklenbergJim Becklenberg is currently serving as the City Manager of Evans CO and has served in governmental finance and management roles since 1997. In his five-year tenure in Evans, his accomplishments include leading City efforts to pass a ballot measure implementing a new sales tax for road maintenance and widening that tripled the maintenance budget; completed construction of a new wastewater treatment plant and planning for future expansion; collaborated with regional leaders in water resources strategic planning; and, reallocated the budget to achieve service level increases desired by the City Council without layoffs or decreases in other services. Mr. Becklenberg is a credentialed Manager with the International City and County Management Association. He holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Kansas and a Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs from Indiana University, Bloomington.

AJ KriegerA.J. Krieger is currently serving as the Town Manager of Firestone CO and has served in municipal management roles since 1997. Mr. Krieger’s accomplishments during his four-year tenure in Firestone include drafting and currently implementing their 2020-2050 Water Action Plan; new Town Hall and Public Works facilities utilizing existing revenues without tax increase; negotiated tax increment IGA’s to maximize revenue necessary to support Town projects; completed comprehensive amendment of land development code with improved review and approval processes; and, establishing a culture of service, performance, and transparency within the Town organization. Mr. Krieger holds a Master of Public Administration from St. Louis University and a Bachelor of Science from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.

Jim ThorsenJim Thorsen brings 40 years of public sector experience to the table, serving as the City Manager of Cherry Hills Village CO for four years in his last role and as the City Manager of Malibu CA for the ten years prior to Cherry Hills. His accomplishments in Cherry Hills include completing the largest capital construction projects in history of the Village; purchasing land and constructing a new Public Works Facility; demolishing 60-year-old City Hall and constructing a modern 12,000 sf City Hall; obtaining the highest possible S&P municipal bonding rating of AAA/AA; and, partnering with High Line Canal Conservancy, CDOT, GOCO, Arapahoe County Open Spaces, and surrounding agencies to maximize grant opportunities to include the Hampden Underpass. Mr. Thorsen is a registered professional engineer in both Colorado and California. He holds a Master of Public Administration from California State University, Northridge and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University.
