Brian Garner is Littleton's new senior economic development specialist. He spoke about his approach to his work:

"It’s ironic, because I work for city government, but I can’t stand bureaucracy. I’m a get-things-done person, and it helps me find ways through red tape.

My job is to be a friendly point of contact for the Littleton business community. There’s a perception that government is impenetrable, but I’m here to work with businesses who want to set up shop in Littleton and bird-dog the information people need.

I’ve worked in land development and planning for almost 20 years, in the public and private sector. In my line of work, I’ve had to navigate real estate, site design, infrastructure – the whole shebang. You’ve got to know where the lampposts can go and where the cars can park. It’s a web of disciplines that go together.

I’ve always been fascinated with building stuff. As a kid I would build cities in the dirt. When I got older I became intrigued by how cities are built, all the way back to Mesopotamia. How do humans use land to live alongside each other?

Now, I’m formulating my goals and ambitions around Littleton. It’s a great place with great bones, and it’s well-positioned to be reinvigorated.

Littleton has a downtown and grid system at its core that allows for a walkable community with amazing access to nature. It’s an amazing place to nurture a strong social environment.

When I can look out my window and see people walking to a restaurant or a gym, that’s what says vibrant community to me.

My job is to drive revenue for the city by growing jobs, but I want to hear from everyone. This is our community. What matters to you?"
