Littleton Police History
Littleton Police K-9 "Hans" sits for a snapshot on the front
window sill of the police station on Main Street (now the Town Hall Arts
Center). The three-year-old German Shepherd was donated to the department in 1963 and underwent six weeks of rigorous training
at the Denver Police K-9 school. Patrolman John Lawler served as the
dog's sole handler. LPD and other agencies used Hans for suspect
apprehension, arrest control, and educational demonstrations.
The dog was retired in 1966 when Officer Lawler transferred to the Cortez Police Department. During his brief time on the force, Hans wore Littleton Dog License #1.
